Disney With My Family

Disney With My Family

For my mother’s sixtieth birthday, I wanted to make her dream come true of having a family vacation in Disney World. There’d been a rift in my family for many years and I didn’t know if things could be put aside for one week of play. I planned a trip, and convinced my brother and his wife to join us.

When we arrived, the Magic of Disney hit me. Within a few hours,  I was enthralled. My brother and I raced from ride to ride, taking my niece on huge roller coasters. We screamed in the Tower of Terror, danced on the roadways to live bands, ate junk food, and got my mother soaking wet on a crazy rapid ride. At Sea World we watched the dolphin and whale shows, ran through a huge play structure, and petted sting rays. At night fireworks reflected in our eyes. In Epcot, we tried to eat something from every part of the world.

I’ve had the blessing of being able to travel the world, but my favorite vacation was the one with my family in Disney. Family tends to come with drama. At times I want to tear my hair out in frustration. Buttons get pushed, feelings get hurt, but no matter what they’re family. To have one week of everyone letting go and being kids was a great gift. Now I know the magic of Disney; it’s a place where you don’t have to deal with grown-up problems. If only we could release the stress more often and simply play in life, then maybe the dramas would fade away. Maybe we would realize that love is all that really matters – everything else is unimportant.
